One Punch Man Manga Chapter 22 Summary
The Tanktop Brothers’ Scheme
Aftermath of the Meteor Incident
The chapter begins three days after the Meteor incident, with Saitama and Genos relaxing in their apartment. On TV, the news covers the devastation caused by meteor fragments. Genos points out that if the Hero Association had asked Saitama for help earlier, much of the destruction could have been prevented.
Rankings are then revealed:
- Saitama leaps from Class-C rank 342 to rank 5.
- Genos climbs from Class-S rank 17 to 16.
- Bofoi (Metal Knight) rises from Class-S rank 7 to 6.
Saitama, shocked at his sudden rank boost, decides to take a walk around Z-City.
The Tanktop Brothers Target Saitama
As Saitama surveys the ruined city, he is confronted by Tanktop Tiger, who accuses him of taking credit for the meteor’s destruction. His brother, Tanktop Black Hole, soon joins in. Together, they loudly declare that Saitama is to blame for the devastation and rally the nearby citizens against him.
The crowd, swayed by the Tanktop Brothers’ accusations, begins demanding that Saitama resign from the Hero Association.
Bang Watches from Afar
High above the scene, Bang (Silver Fang) observes silently. While disappointed in the citizens’ mob mentality, he also fears what might happen if Saitama stays in an organization that misunderstands him. He muses that he’d rather see Saitama walk away from the Association than be corrupted by its politics.
Saitama’s Stand Against False Accusations
When the Tanktop Brothers attempt to “defend” the people by attacking him, Saitama easily shuts them down:
- Tanktop Tiger charges in, but Saitama casually knocks him away.
- Tanktop Black Hole tries to restrain Saitama, only to fall in pain as Saitama crushes his grip.
Humiliated, Black Hole begs for forgiveness. But instead of lashing out, Saitama addresses the crowd directly. He boldly admits the destruction was his fault and declares that he isn’t a hero for praise or popularity—he’s a hero simply because he feels like it.
This speech silences the crowd, proving that Saitama’s resolve is unshakable.
A New Threat Emerges from the Ocean
The chapter closes with a chilling scene: a Mysterious Being rises from the ocean, hinting at the next major battle awaiting Saitama and the Hero Association.
